Multi-Sport Vacations
Holidays for People Who Like a Little of Everything.

- by Erick Young

Can't decide between hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking or whitewater rafting on your next vacation? Now you don't have to. In the last few years, multi-sport vacations have been gaining in popularity. Adventure travelers who don't like to be limited to a single activity have found that several tour companies are now specializing in tours offering a combination of sports.

Designed for all ages and abilities, multi-sport vacations offer, in an infinite number of combinations, such common activities as mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting and rock climbing. Others offer sea kayaking, snorkeling and canyoneering.

One of the original companies to offer multi-sport trips is The World Outside, a Colorado based company that offers 24 different programs throughout the U.S. and 9 countries. The growth in the number of tours that The World Outside offers mirrors the rapid growth in this segment of the travel industry. As a result, their tour offerings show a good sampling of the types of tours available.

A seven day tour to Alaska's Denali-Kenai Park allows travelers to explore glaciers and wildlife, hike, mountain bike, sea kayak and raft on glacier-fed rivers. The Washington State's Olympic Peninsula Tour offers hikes through the old growth rainforest, sea kayaking in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and mountian biking in the conifer forests.

Warm destination tours, such as the Baja Coast tour, offer warm weather based activities. Activities include hikes in canyons, paddles down the turquoise coast searching for dolphins and whales, and afternoons of snorkeling.

Other tour locations offered by The World Outside include the Canadian Rockies, New Mexico, Teton-Yellowstone, and Glacier National Park. Companies like Andiamo Tours, offer activities in Switzerland and Italy.

Tour companies that cater to adventurers are beginning to realize that active clients often prefer to experience many types of activities on the same vacation, and they are adapting to that need. If you like your itinerary filled with a variety of choices each day, consider a multi-sport vacation for your next holiday.
